    I am new to the golf cart world, retired after 42 years in the Oil and Gas service company, never played gold nor had a cart till now, someone gave me a 1970 easy go, have a lot to learn about care and Maintenace hope to learn from you all, got it to work for a little while but it's not in the mood to want to move, I will read and see what I can find on the group and get to enjoy you all, thanks in advance, Joe

      golfcartg​, Thanks for the invite in, I will listen, learn and share, my 1970 Easy-Go, has started giving me motor change speed when the petal is held in the same position and finally will not move in my limited knowledge of the electronic, I think that is the Motor, I hear a little growling noise coming from the Motor, today I will remove it and check it out, hope it is only the brushes,

            Welcome aboard Joe! A 1970 EZGO is a real treat, you’ve got yourself a piece of history there. Feel free to poke around the threads, there’s a lot of good info on care and maintenance for classic carts. And hey, if you’re ever in the mood, sharing a photo or two of your project might be fun to see!

              Michael, Thanks, I don't much about its history but here now and will do some reading, bet there is a lot of information in this group, it was given to me fellow as me to haul it to the scrap yard, he paid 3,000 dollars for it, course I don't know pricing of them, he said it would not run but for a few minutes then die, charged the batteries, while charging jacked it up found the rear axle bearing from both were wore out 2007 year Easy Go.jpg , front brake to tight, got it going, my wife don't get out of the house much but she gets out just about every day and rides in the yard got 5 acres, it quite pulling I check best I can on it and looks like the motor brushes must be at the end of their life, I have a lawnmower repair shop so am good at mechanical work but a lot to learn about the wiring on the cart, so I tried to get the motor off but guess after 55 years it is Oxidized together, going to remove the read end and try again, been soaking got it to move a little but won't move anymore, I will attach photo,

                it quit moving, got a growling noise from the rear end and only last a few seconds them stops, I jacked up the rear end, turned the wheel by hand and pressed the escalator and it would turn but not at a stead speed, so I took the rear end out and after an hour of tapping finally got it off, guess after 55 years it was a little rusty found the problem, fins chewed up just a few and about 12 bars shorted, called the guy at the gold cart place sold me a second hand motor with a guarantee for 200, cash sale, will post a pic or what it looked like, there is no play in the housing, now much oil and it is put in the breather vent I am guessing, was going to put some 85-90 if that is acceptable, thanks for any help in advance, Joe

                  Wow, that motor tells quite a story. Out of curiosity, when you drained the old fluid, what did it smell like? Did it have that classic heavy gear oil scent, or was it more of a lightweight, thinner liquid? The reason I ask is that EZGO had a habit of using SAE 30 motor oil in their rear ends, which throws people off because most folks associate that with engine oil rather than something for a differential.

                    Michael​, thanks for the reply, I don't know what go it but sure chewed it up good, I think that the fellow that gave me the Cart was not to bright, he one of those guys that does not believe in Maintenace, on anything he owns, great Neighbor when it gives him problems, gives it to me, he had the Cart, drove it and where it stopped in the yard it stayed there, one day he ask it I would haul it to the scrap yard, went with the tractor and forks on the front end loader picked it up and went home, while I had it up I tried to turn the back wheels and the would not move, removed the rims, brake shows, still not turn, it was the bearing on the axel were froze, changed them and it worked fine until the happen with the motor, I have never seen that kind of damage, I am probably wrong but maybe heat buildup in the motor may have caused them to do what we see, several bars were shorted and a burnt smell, I did drain the housing yesterday, what should be put in there, light, heavy, regular oil, synthetic, that is my hold up now, don't want to put the wrong oil, thanks for your time and advise, Joe
