  • G1 Repairs

I have ordered seals today and I have a couple of questions.(83 G1)
Is the service manual worth purchasing?
Does anyone have detailed instructions on replacing the seals?
I checked the compression and it is 85, is this ok?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

It runs, but only wide open. When it gets hot, it burns more smoke and bogs down.

    Thanks,

If you are going to replace seals, also replace the rings. And whatever you tear down that has a gasket, replace those gaskets too. A good motor will have over 125 compression. And yes, the service manual is worth it.

Your problem is common for carts that need rings and seals.

Thanks, I ordered the service manual.

Should I just replace the rings with new standard size rings or bore it out and put in oversize piston and rings?

I guess I should wait until I tear it down and see what I have.

      Thanks for the help!

You can measure it to see how much it expanded. Usually people bore it out and up the piston size and rings.
