yamaha gas wont stay running

my golf carts battery died so i jumped it but when i take off the cables it dies is it the battery or the generator

Replace the battery with a new one. Clean the terminals and posts. Run the golf cart like normal. If after some time the battery dies again, you know you have a generator problem. If it runs fine and normal, don't worry about it because everything is working fine.
