G16 Problems

Just bought a 1996 G16 from a local golf course, cheap, the whole thing is in good shape except fpr one problem, it runs when it wants to. let me explain, it will start and run fine, then once in a while it will backfire, then as it warms up it dies, i checked the spark while trying to start it and it has intermittent spark, sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes when you first hit the petal you get spark for a second and sometimes you dont, this is driving me nuts, i am inclined to think it is the T C I unit but want some feedback from someone else, when this problem first started it seemed like it was heat related, would run great when cold but would die after it ran for a while, any help would be appreciated cause i just dont want to start throwing parts at it thanks Wicked872

Hi wicked872, welcome to the boards. Replace the TCI, or as some others call it the coil. Common Yamaha problem.
