g16 yamaha gas cart want charge battery

i have a 1999 g16 that want charge the battery. i took the generater to a repair shop and they said it was ok. i need some help! can anyone give me any advice?

what is a way i can check it ?

is the voltage regulator the ribbed box that has 4 wire plug?
i checked it with an test light with the cart running the only hot wire was the red wire none of the other wires had any fire.

Your voltage regulator is a little box with 3 wires coming out of it, usually near the solenoid. To test it put a voltage meter on the battery mains, jack up the rear of the golf cart and run it at full governed throttle. If you are getting a reading under 12 volts your voltage regulator is bad.

thanks i will try it . will the volt meter read how hot the battery is rather than what volts or coming to it ? i guess i can un hook the cables from the battery after i get it started

Np, It goes in this order. Generator > Voltage Regulator > Battery. If the voltage regulator is not operating it will cut power to the battery in your case, so your battery will not charge.

You are looking for 13-15 volts on the battery at full throttle for a few minutes. Dont unhook the battery.

all it would do was about 12.09 volts. where is a good place to get the regulator?
