  • G9 fuel filled crankcase

I just had this cart given to me by a friend, runs, but spits fuel out of crankcase vent system. Discovered the crankcase is full of fuel.. Known issues? What would you check first?

Fuel flooding into the crankcase can stem from a few sources, in cases like yours where fuel is even spitting out of the crankcase vent, lets take a close look at the fuel pump. The pump uses a pulse line from the crankcase to create the vacuum that draws fuel from the tank, a pretty efficient system when it’s all in good shape. Inside the fuel pump, there’s a small diaphragm that does the heavy lifting. Over time, this diaphragm can develop small tears or cracks that allow fuel to leak straight into the crankcase through the pulse line. Inspecting the inside of the fuel pump for any signs of wear or damage is key here. If you do find tears, a diaphragm replacement or new fuel pump can save you a lot of frustration with fuel issues.

If all looks well there, another common source of fuel flooding is the carburetor’s float system and this is often where things get tricky. The carburetor relies on a float to control the amount of fuel in the carb bowl which works with a needle valve that seals off fuel flow when the right level is reached. If your cart is lifted at a weird angle or when the float or valve sticks, it allows fuel to continuously pour into the carb. This excess fuel with nowhere to go, can overflow and drain into the crankcase. Leveling out your lift or taking the carburetor apart and carefully checking that the float moves freely and that the needle valve seats properly is needed here. If you find wear or buildup around the valve, giving it a thorough cleaning or even replacing the needle can go a long way in restoring the balance and providing a remedy.
