  • G1 Needs alot of Choke

We have a 1986 Yamaha 2 cycle gas G1 cart. It seems to always need alot of choke even when warmed up to climb hills. I had to a small engine repair, since they were not familar with golf carts they cleaned the carb. replaced the fuel filter.....all with no improvement. The cart does run, just difficult to start and small hills without choke assist. Any thoughts? Thanks Tim

Hi Tim. If they weren’t replaced, crank seals are most common reason. But before you tear down the engine, check all the hoses and gaskets. Yamaha intakes are very touchy, if the air filter or anywhere through out the intake is not 100% sealed the engine will run as you are describing.

So check the hoses, gaskets, and look for corrosion on any rubber pieces.

crank seals...I just replaced mine and it runs like a new cart. Before it had 2 speeds, off and fullspeed! Now it just touch the peddle and it runs at low speed as well as a much faster hi speed.
