  • G2 runs rough

Hi, I am new here and have a g 2 golf cart. I replace the starter and when I plug in the red and green wires coming out of the side of it it will not run it all if I unplug them it runs rough. Could I have a bad starter or a wrong starter? I think I may have gotten a starter for a newer g 16. Could that be my problem? I changed the oil and spark plugs and cleaned the carburetor. I also drained all the gas out put new gas in and a new inline fuel filter. I remove the exhaust and checked for blockages.

Your engine relies on the carburetor to blend air and fuel in precise proportions for combustion. Residue can accumulate in its passages hindering fuel delivery and causing engine performance issues. Moreover any air leaks in the intake system can disrupt this delicate balance leading to rough running or stalling.

It sounds like you've put a lot of effort into troubleshooting your golf cart issue! Regarding the carburetor cleaning, it's possible that it might not have been thoroughly cleaned enough leading to rough running. Cleaning a golf cart carburetor properly involves disassembling it, soaking the parts in carburetor cleaner, and using a small wire and compressed air to blow out any debris from the tiny passages. However, for a more thorough cleaning, I strongly recommend sending it to a shop for sonic cleaning. Sonic cleaning involves using ultrasonic waves to agitate a cleaning solution effectively removing even the most stubborn deposits from the carburetor.

Additionally, the intake must be completely sealed and is very important for proper engine performance. Any air leaks in the intake system can disrupt the air fuel mixture ratio leading to rough running or engine stalling. Make sure all intake components are securely fastened and sealed to prevent any air leaks.

If the carburetor wasn't properly cleaned or if there are air leaks in the intake system it could indeed cause rough running or stalling issues, even with a new starter. If you suspect the starter might be incorrect for your G2 golf cart though double checking the model compatibility is a good idea. If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to ask!
