  • trailer hitch install question

I have a 96 Yamaha cart. I ordered a trailer hitch kit. Got it, no instructions. Can someone help? Do I need to remove the rear bumper?

Hey so you might need to remove the rear bumper, but other than that, it's pretty straightforward. The hitch mounts to the frame. I'm attaching to this post the bolt layout for the rear bumper and a frame layout diagram and feel free to share pictures of your current setup

Well ain't that a nice detailed post from Cyber Cart! Sure do appreciate folks like that who take the time to share some good ol' helpful advice. Here's hopin' it gets you on the right track there mister Plastic Dr...

Your post brings back a doozy of a memory! Couple years back, I decided to install a trailer hitch on my ol' cart. Figured it would be perfect for haulin' firewood and whatnot around the property. Ordered a kit online, and when it arrived, wouldn’t you know it, no instructions. Just a bag of bolts and a hitch that looked like it belonged on a spaceship. I got to work, thinkin' I had it all figured out. Ended up attaching the hitch, but I didn’t quite get it right. Thought it was secure enough, so I loaded up a small trailer with a couple of hay bales to haul. Started drivin' down the bumpy trail, feelin' pretty proud of myself.

Next thing I know, I hear a loud clatter. Look back, and there goes the trailer, unhitched and barrelin' down the hill, hay bales flyin' every which way! Nearly took out the chicken coop.

About your Yamaha cart and that hitch kit, sometimes it’s all about trial and error. Maybe you need to remove the rear bumper, maybe not. Best thing is to take a good look, see how everything lines up. And ALWAYS doublecheck those bolts. Don’t want your trailer takin' a joyride like mine did! Good luck, and happy haulin'!
