  • Driving in rain/ Controller cover

I am posting this here for a little better visibility. I understand that Yamaha's and Hyundai's are similar.
Is there supposed to be a cover over the controller? I am concerned about driving in the rain and thru puddles, etc.
    Thanks

    Driving in rain/ Controller cover

Hyundai electric-- Is there supposed to be a cover over the controller? I am concerned about driving in the rain and thru puddles, etc.

    Thanks

Hi Jeff, it depends and I am not sure on your specific model (maybe Doug knows for sure) but have a look at the controller to see if it looks completely sealed off. You may be able to see a rubber gasket between the seams. Or look around it to see if it appears that a cover was on it at one point. Some have covers, others are sealed from the factory.

OK, thanks. I'll look for the gasket. Any other problems driving in the rain?

I don't know if the Hyundai has a controller cover but rain and a few puddles should not affect the controller. As Matti mentioned they are sealed and most or all are rated splash proof.
Are you having trouble or was it just a question?
Can you post a photo of that specific area?

No, just a question. New cart to us that has been gone thru by someone who seemed to have some fun and not know what they were doing-- I'm not talking about not knowing about this specific cart, but by someone who really didn't know what they were doing. Had our first real rain here since we have had it and wanted to be sure I wouldn't hurt anything by going thru a puddle or two or maybe 4. I had read the forums and some mentioned a cover for the controller so I wanted to be sure.
            Thanks

In general, golf carts are used in the rain and washed weekly so I wouldn't worry about a little water splashing around as long as you're not fording streams in it.
Can you post up some photos of the cart and the battery area so we can see what has been done to it?

No, No, No-- I can't show you what 's under the seat.............I'd be thrown off the forum if you saw what it looked like in there.
OK, I have 4 8-9 year old Trojans that I was able to save (2 were not salvageable) and an older 12 volt airplane battery.
I was able to get this cart for a reasonable price (I know that is subjective) and just use it to run around the airport. My kids run around it it and we get just about an hour of run time out of it. The batteries are not long for this world but will run them until they completely give up.

Don't be embarrassed Jeff, we've probably seen worse.

Anecdote about the water issue- out here in the boonies I was the last to get a cart. One neighbor has one (electric) that the kids played with a lot when they were younger. At least once a week I would see mom or dad pulling it out of the pond with the 4wd truck. That was maybe 6-8 years ago and it is still running. I doubt they did much more than let it dry out between 'voyages'.

C'mon Jeff, post up some pictures
I've seen carts with the most oddball batteries and some series wired with solid strand 12ga exposed household wire, jumper cables, you name it.

Here's an ugly battery compartment that had a little meltdown:

I cant imagine what a big meltdown would look like.
