  • Golf cart is slow...

    I have an 1989 golf cart exgo..
    ​​​​​​ I replaced the top end of the engine because my compression was it 90!! I changed the top part of it and it still says 90 compression it's a two PG engine ! I changed the coil spark plug brand new carburetor brand new ignition switch

    Let's talk a little about how this engine makes compression. These engines rely on a tight seal throughout not just at the top end. Crank seals are key for maintaining this seal. If they're worn or damaged, air leaks out causing low compression readings like your 90 psi. Even with a new top end bad crank seals will prevent proper compression. Here's the vitals to check as far as compression goes in a 2-cycle:
    • Piston Rings
    • Piston walls (check for scores or damage)
    • Cylinder walls (check for scores or damage)
    • Crank Seals
    • Cylinder head (check for warps or cracks)
    • Gaskets
    • Reed/Rotary Valve
    • Spark plug threads/washer

      You can try some preliminary diagnostic steps: jack up the rear wheels for safety, spray starting fluid at the bad crank seals while trying to crank it over, the starting fluid can temporarily seal the leaks in the crank seals. This temporary seal can help the engine start by allowing the crankcase to build the necessary pressure for proper compression. If the engine starts or runs momentarily after spraying starting fluid, it indicates that the crank seals are likely compromised and leaking. This method is only effective if the engine is otherwise ready to run and only has an issue with the crank seals.
