Hey guy scant figure out whats going on with my cart. We use it to tow the race car at the drag strip and it doesn't seem to have bottom end power. The kids ride it around and its fine. Top end is awesome and have to watch the kids don't go to hard with it. But we hook the car up and it will only do about 15klph towing the car. Have serviced the cart, new plugs, valve adjustment done, and runs fine. I am thinking maybe clutch adjustment or carb adjustment? Anyone have any thoughts. A mate has a single cylinder cart that nearly rips the front end off the race car. Surely my twin cylinder should pull better than his?

The EZGO Workhorse was designed primarily for light duty tasks, with a typical capacity to comfortably carry around two people and some light cargo, usually around 800 pounds depending on the model. It's an ideal cart for groundskeeping or similar tasks, not necessarily for towing heavy loads like a race car. However, that hasn’t stopped many cart owners from pushing the limits and using these vehicles to tow up to 1,000 pounds or more.

Your EZGO Workhorse is equipped with an engine designed more for top end speed than for low end pulling power. These carts were built to hit about 15 mph right out of the factory, which was faster than many other golf carts at the time which topped out around 12.5 mph. This design focus on topend speed might be why you're seeing strong performance when the kids are riding it around but less power when you're trying to tow your race car.

One way to boost your cart’s pulling power is to experiment with a slightly shorter drive belt. A shorter belt can improve the cart's low end torque. This works because the shorter belt changes the effective gear ratio making it easier for the engine to turn the wheels under load. This is a common tweak among those who need their carts to handle more demanding tasks. More info on that here
