  • Acting Loaded up.

Hello. I'm new here, and would like some help.
I bought a 1987 EZ Go with EC25-2PG Robin engine. I just put a new top end on it. New carb. It acted loaded up when I bought it, but knew it needed top end work. It still acts Loaded up, or maybe a retarded spark.
Any help would be enlightening, and appreciated.

The 2PG ezgo engine is quite reliable when it’s running well, but it certainly has its quirks that can be a bit tricky to diagnose. It sounds like you replaced the top end likely because of symptoms that suggested a loss in compression, common signs of a tired engine. Loss of power, difficulty starting, and that “loaded up” feeling you mentioned are classic indicators. Now that you've done the top end work, lets check the compression to see where things stand. Ideally, you want over 100 psi for optimal performance, though these engines have been known to run with as low as 60 psi, albeit not perfectly.

Next, you’ll want to verify you’re getting a good spark. A healthy spark should be a strong, blue, and consistent arc when you test it. To check this, remove the spark plug, reattach the spark plug wire, and ground the spark plug against the engine block. Turn the engine over and observe the spark. It should be sharp and blue, a weak or yellow spark indicates ignition system issues. Make sure your spark plug is clean and correctly gapped, you could potentially need to inspect your ignition system for wear or faults.

Don’t forget to also check your fuel system, as a new carburetor might still need fine tuning to match the engine’s needs. Make sure the fuel lines are clear and the fuel is fresh. Sometimes, old fuel can cause performance issues. Feel free to reach out with any more questions as you dig into this.
