Golf cart will not turn left. Seems the gear is stripped, however, I have pulled the front wheels off and checked the operation of the steering components and found some resistance in the steering gear box. I pulled the steering column and found the spider gear off center. Straightened, greased the gear box, reassembled and there was no resistance. With the front wheels off I checked the operation of the steering components and all work properly. Reinstalled the front wheels and tires and the problem still exists. Am I in need of a new steering gear box? Anyone that could offer some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Based on the symptoms you've described, there are a couple of potential causes to consider. One possibility is that there could be bent steering components, such as tie rods or spindles, causing the steering to malfunction. Additionally, if your golf cart is equipped with a lift kit, there's a chance that incompatible or improperly installed parts could be affecting the steering geometry, leading to issues with turning.

I've seen cases where even minor misalignments or discrepancies in parts can have a significant impact on steering performance. By meticulously inspecting each steering part and verifying compatibility with your carts year make and model, we can pinpoint any areas of concern and address them accordingly.

At the steering systems core is the steering wheel, which is connected to the steering column that houses various components facilitating steering movement. As the steering wheel is turned, it rotates the steering shaft within the column, transmitting this motion to the steering gear assembly located at the bottom of the column. The steering gear assembly converts the rotational motion of the steering shaft into lateral movement, which is transmitted to the tie rods via the steering arms. The tie rods are connected to the spindles, which support the front wheels of the golf cart. When the steering wheel is turned, the tie rods articulate, causing the wheels to turn in the desired direction. Additionally, the steering system includes other components such as bushings, bearings, and steering dampers, which help with smooth and precise steering operation. Overall, the interaction of these components allows for effective control and maneuverability of the cart. See attached diagram for reference.

To assist you further, could you provide more details about any modifications or upgrades that have been made to your golf cart, such as the installation of a lift kit or aftermarket steering components? This information will help us narrow down the potential causes and find the most effective solution to restore proper steering functionality.
