1980 ezgo

I have a 2 cycle robin motor in my cart, having problems of running rough and not getting up to speed. But if I put it in reverse it runs like a race car. getting frustrated. Can someone please help me? Thanks reading this, have a freat day.

Kinda need a bit more info. Not sure on a 1980 EZGO if the transaxle shifts the F/R or like some of the Yamaha's the 2 stroke motor runs in reverse. But start with the basics. I am assuming the transaxle shifts the F/R so the motor always turns the same direction. Check the brakes that they are releasing in forward, probable needs new brake cables anyway. Do the rear wheel turn freely in both directions?
If the motor runs in reverse, then there are s different set of problems. From timing, points and condenser, compression, worn cylinder, piston rings, seals, etc. How long since a good tune up? That old of a motor can be very tired.
