  • Textron 1995

New to the carting world , found a 1995 Textron golf cart today.
The guy says it needs rings as it blows lite blue smoke.
Hes asking a bit more than what I want to give if it does need motor work.
Can anyone advise me on this future project.
What to look at first, to do, rebuild or new motor or look elsewhere.

Kinda need a little more info.
Like what motor is in it? If its a 4 stroke, smoke out the exhaust can be many things none are good. Anything from bad valve guides, seals, rings, scored cylinders, etc. Pretty much count on a complete rebuild. Smoking 4 strokes indicates a very tired motor. A 2 stroke is supposed to smoke, cause oil and gas it mixed. The only way to see if its good is a compression and leak down test. Personally a smoking motor cart is worth no more than $100-$300 to me at most and would consider it non-running.
If the rings are that worn, more than likely the cylinders, pistons, bearings and seals are bad. But no telling until the motor is torn down. FYI

Larry, thanks for the reply, My line of thinking also on your post.
After talking with a few mechanics this past weekend I have decided to buy a new clubcar with batteries.
