1984 EZGO 2 Stroke electrical Problems

I had the rear end lifted in the air to install a new clutch. While hanging, two wires on the selector switch touched and the starter/generator started smoking. Nothing but a clicking would happen from the solenoid.

I had the starter / generator rebuilt. Bench tests fine. Doesn't do anything in the golf cart. Just the same clicking from the solenoid.

Any ideas???
