Good day all,
I am new to this forum. Having recently come into possession of an old EZ Go 36 V cart, this looked like a good place to "pick" a few brains. My goal is to make this cart fully functional for recreational use (Grandkids, Grandpakid, scooting around the neighborhood). Maybe even customizing into something the kids can use as a novelty in kids parades, and such (Flintstone car?). I do have experience in both automotive and electrical fields so getting my hands dirty won't be an issue. I have been researching as much as I can as to model, specs, availability of parts and so on. This is what I know so far (or at least think I know):
Year: 1972?
Model number: X444 5GE
Serial Number: 2544X3234
Mfg. Number: 325-2060E
I have identified some work that will be needed. Such as: tighten up the steering, new tires, repairs to seats and a few other minor issues. The main problem is batteries. They were dry when I got the cart. And, the charger that came with it is not the original but is 36 volt and I believe it to be compatible. I am trying one of those refurbishing kits. I have gotten far enough to see they will take a charge (or at least some will) but don't know if they will hold that charge long enough to get any significant run time. Even if it does, I'm sure they will not function at full capacity and will need replacing sooner or later. I have considered going with one of the newer Lithium but am worried that it might not be compatible with the motor or other electronics. (it will take some modification to fit the different size/space) Can't see where it wouldn't but… Also would like to add a charge meter to keep track of time/charge while in use.
My questions here are:
Thoughts on best brand/type battery for performance (run time)?
Thoughts on best charge meter?
Based on model and serial number (above) did I get the year close?
Thoughts on good source for parts etc.?
Any other suggestions, thoughts, ideas would be greatly appreciated?
