2002 EZGO wont go

I have a nice 2002 EZGO txt 36v with brand new batteries, reading proper voltage and all accessories work. Recently, intermittingly, you turn the key on, put it in forward and step on the gas and it starts to move but quits instantly. Now its no longer intermittent, won't go at all. New F/R switch also. It has an older aftermarket controller and motor and I'm suspecting the controller. Anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks

How old are the batteries? Might be time to change them.
