Motor wire from shift controller to motor get hot and melts connector is the motor going bad and how can I check it?

Sounds more like the FNR switch needs to be disassembled and the contacts cleaned thoroughly.

Replace the FNR switch with a heavy duty one, Amazon for about $85.
