  • Rear tires are labed as same size but are not- is this harmful

Newbie here- just got a '97 Ezgo TXT 36 volt- leans to driver's side- when searching for reason for lean- I found that rear tires are marked as same size but one is
larger than other- Cart was leaning to drivers side, the smaller tire side - so I swapped tire sides- cart now sets level- which it really should not. Would be ok to run with un-even tires?
I was not able to spot any reason for lean- where should I look? I need to get a service manual also- suggestion- on-line anywhere? I am reasonable mechanical- I build outboards.

In short, the differential on your TXT is open, which means it allows each wheel to spin at different speeds. This is designed to help the cart navigate turns smoothly. Running with uneven tire sizes shouldn't cause significant problems for the cart's drivetrain.

The open differential uses a system of gears called spider gears. These gears allow the rear wheels to rotate independently which is especially useful when turning, one wheel spins faster while the other spins slower. In your case, since the tires are uneven in size, the differential will compensate by spinning the smaller tire faster than the larger one. This is the same process that occurs when turning a corner, so in theory, the differential can handle it just fine.

Over time, having mismatched tires could lead to slightly uneven wear on components though this would take a while to become noticeable. Since the differential is "open," it's not locked or forcing both tires to rotate at the same speed, so the uneven tire size won’t cause binding or strain inside the differential. Still, for the sake of longevity and smooth handling, it’s always a good idea to eventually get a matching set of tires to balance things out.
