  • Powerwise QE charger problem

I have questions regarding a Powerwise QE charger, which came new from the dealer with a 2011 EZGO ST Sport 2+2 PDS 36 volt cart. The original Powerwise QE charger stopped working within 6 months. The dealer happened to have a spare Powerwise QE and swapped it out for the broken one. Now, after about a year, the one he swapped out has also gone bad!

Is this a common problem with this charger? Is there any inherent flaw to the newer chargers like the QE with LED indicators and no amp meter?
Or am I somehow a kind of charger serial killer?

I have now talked to two cart mechanics at two different cart shops who have nothing good to say about the Powerwise QE. Don't know if this is a common perception among those experienced with the electric carts, or not?

In any case, if I have to buy another charger, what make/model would be a more reliable bet so I don't go through this trouble and expense all over?
Thanks for any advice, really glad I found this forum.

I understand your frustration. It sounds like you've encountered several issues that have led to multiple charger failures, and you're not alone in your experience. It's not uncommon for users to encounter issues similar to what you've described. The SC-48, essentially a newer version of the QE, has also received criticism for its reliability and performance.

The Powerwise QE chargers are known to have limitations that can lead to premature failure. For instance, they're not well suited for use in direct sunlight, as they lack proper cooling like those found in chargers from other brands. Additionally, their sensitivity to variations in electrical supply, including GFCI trips and 'fluctuating electricity,' can result in blown fuses and other internal damage. Furthermore, using the charger when the battery state of charge is below 25% can cause it to work harder, generating more heat and potentially shortening its lifespan.

Considering your ongoing troubles with the Powerwise QE charger, it may be worthwhile to explore alternatives that offer better reliability and performance. DPI chargers are often recommended as a replacement option. These chargers are designed to provide consistent charging making them a more reliable choice. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!
