2003 Gas club car, has initial spark but spark goes away as pedal is depressed

I recently purchased a 2003 Gas Club Car. It ran fine but would sometimes not start if the battery was getting weak. Now it won't start. Battery is 100% charged. New NGK spark plug. It initially sounds like it wants to start right when the pedal is slowly pushed. I checked for spark and it sparks right away and then spark goes away as the pedal is pushed further down. It should have continuous spark to keep running, correct? What would make spark cut out after initially working? Any ideas area welcome and appreciated.
