help, health issues forced to sell ATV get golf cart, not understand cart issues

The ease of getting in and out of the golf cart is great, no more climbing over ATV. But, I got a used cart, and it's got issues. I got the rear jacked up. It will only start in F or R and must keep pedal forward to keep motor running. The carb has been cleaned. the micro's are working? Wires to them have been messed with in the past. I'M assuming the cart should idle in any gear spot...it does not, it die's. must have the gas pedal pushed half way and wheels off ground to keep it running. Any thoughts?

It's a golf cart. It doesn't idle. Push the pedal and it goes it should go with less than half pedal but when you let it go it stops.

And never try to shift while the cart is moving. Make sure engine is off before you shift
