Alright, since all we know now is that it’s a gas powered Club Car, let’s start by looking at a few things. You mentioned it runs fine for a bit but then loses power especially when you’re going downhill or on level ground. That has me thinking about a few possibilities. First, of course, make sure your fuel filter is clean and your fuel lines aren’t clogged. Sometimes the simplest things can cause these intermittent issues.
Now if everything checks out there you’ll want to take a closer look at the wiring. There should be a box near the front of the engine. If it has a brown ground wire running to the engine block, try this: disconnect that wire, make sure it's tucked away so it doesn’t ground out to any metal, and then take the cart for a ride like normal.
If the issue disappears after disconnecting that ground, you’ve likely pinpointed the problem. That box is your RPM limiter and when they start to fail they can cut out your engine at odd times. If everything else is working fine after this test, I’d recommend replacing the RPM limiter to keep everything running smoothly again. If you can provide more details about your carts model and year or any other symptoms you’re noticing I’d be happy to offer more pinpointed guidance to help you troubleshoot the issue more effectively.

If your cart runs for a while before it cuts out, when it cuts out try removing gas cap and see if it starts back up. You have to replace fuel used with air. This is done by vent in gas cap. If your cart starts back up you may need a new gas cap. But rev limiter can cause this problem and is frustrating to find. If you believe it’s the rev limiter it can be by passed with a small section of wire and a couple bullet conecters. And you’ll be surprised the speed you’ll see! But be careful not to over rev. Crankshaft can stretch with higher rpm. I use synthetic oil to keep heat down. Synthetic oil runs cooler than conventional oil and isn’t cheap.
