I hope someone can help me with information for 12" fan Kit. I was given a 12" fan from a kit so I went on the internet to find instructions to install it. The instruction show a resistor mounted on a small aluminum plate for a heat sink and a three position switch so you can have a high and low speed setting. I can't find any specific on the resistor or the switch. I think the fan is from a Nivel parts kit. Anyone have any information or suggestions? I have an 05 Club Car gas.

The resistor in the kit allows the fan to run at speeds by reducing the voltage when it's in the low speed setting. It does this by diverting some of the electrical energy into the resistor, which dissipates the excess energy as heat. The aluminum plate might serve as a heat sink to prevent the resistor from overheating, absorbing and dispersing the heat it generates. The three position switch indeed controls whether the fan runs at full voltage (high speed), reduced voltage (low speed), or is off entirely. This setup works by sacrificing energy as heat to lower the fan speed.
Instead of relying on a resistor to reduce voltage, I would recommend using a pulse width modulation controller. A PWM controller can adjust the fan speed by controlling the voltage sent to the fan, just like the resistor would. The difference is that a PWM controller is more efficient and doesn't generate heat like a resistor.
With a PWM controller, you can wire it directly to your fan and connect it to the dial that allows you to toggle between speeds. This offers the same high/low fan speed control but without the heat management issues that come with resistors. Plus it's easier on your battery and provides smoother control over the fan’s speed.
