  • 1991 Club Car no spark question

    Hello,

Newbie to the site! Great info so far. Wanted to see if anyone has the same setup as I do. Bought this Club Car as a project and have no spark, Read somewhere to disconnect black wire and turn over...if spark, its something else..if no spark..its the coil. Looking at mine, I only have a brown wire and a black/yellow. Any suggestions on where to start?

Removing the ground wire from the coil is often suggested to disable the RPM limiter as the limiter can sometimes cause a no spark situation. However, with the 1990 & 1991 KF82 flathead engines, there hasn't been a reliable way to disable the RPM limiter that we've found. In these engines, you have three wires coming from the exciter/pulsar, all of which are required to provide power and properly time the spark.

The ignition coil itself only has two wires. Interestingly, if you have an earlier model (1984 to 1989), the older coil will plug directly into the 3 wire harness and work fine, although it will lose the RPM limiter function. As for testing, you should be looking for around 355 ohms on the exciter coil and 55-73 ohms on the pulsar coil. Testing these values can help determine if there’s an issue with the ignition system before moving forward with part replacement.
