Hi. My gas precedent has no throttle control. When I step down it is full speed. I can't feather it to go slow. It is full speed or nothing. Any ideas????
    Thanks, Steve

    Hi Steve,

Carefully adjusting the throttle linkage and confirming that the cable tension is correct should restore smooth throttle control. Throttle linkage being out of adjustment can cause the throttle to behave erratically, making it difficult to control the speed smoothly. Basically, the throttle linkage is a system of cables and mechanical connections that transmit the pedal movement to the carburetor, controlling how much air and fuel mixture enters the engine.

If the throttle linkage is not correctly adjusted, it can lead to a situation where pressing the pedal causes the carburetor flap to open fully immediately, resulting in full speed instead of allowing for gradual acceleration. This problem often occurs if the linkage has been tampered with or improperly adjusted during maintenance or if it has become loose or worn over time. For example, if the throttle cable has slipped out of its proper position or if the adjustment screws have been tightened or loosened incorrectly, it can throw off the calibration needed for smooth throttle control.

First, locate the throttle linkage connected to the gas pedal and the carburetor. This might require removing the rubber floor mat and an access panel to get a clear view. Once you have access, inspect the throttle cable for any signs of wear, fraying, or looseness. The cable should have a small amount of free play when the pedal is at rest, indicating it's neither too tight nor too slack.

Next, have someone press the gas pedal slowly while you observe the movement of the throttle linkage and the carburetor flap. The flap should open gradually as the pedal is pressed. If the flap jumps to full open too quickly, the cable tension needs to be adjusted.

Turn the adjustment screw or nut to fine-tune the cable tension until the carburetor flap opens smoothly with slight pedal pressure. Continue making small adjustments while observing the flap until it opens and closes in sync with the pedal movement. After achieving the desired throttle response, tighten the locknut on the adjustment screw to secure the cable in place. Double check that all connections are tight and that the cable moves freely without binding.

Finally, reassemble any components you removed to access the throttle linkage and take the cart for a test drive. Im attaching the layout of the throttle cables so you can get a visual. If the problem persists or if you’re uncomfortable performing these adjustments yourself feel free to reach out!
