  • I have a 1988 gas club car

I have a 1988 KF82 gas engine I just rebuilt this engine with over size pistons and rings was running fine but one time it wouldn't start found the coil wire shorting against the exhaust pipe fixed that ran fine for a day then started to backfire I think it may be a bad coil but cannot find a replacement. I may need to upgrade is there another engine that will fit as a replacement?

I'm no expert, but it seems to me you need a new coil. My experience is that once a coil has gone to ground it's never going to be 100% effective again. Before you spend the $75 for a new one check the flywheel gap and be sure it's to specs.

While I have not done it myself (yet), I have read and have seen videos of people replacing original engines with Predators engines. They are Honda clones available to Harbor Freight. However, you'll need to make new mounts and get an adapter to fit the clutch onto the crankshaft of the new engine.Xcaret
