  • clutch tools

Hi all - was hoping someone could point me in the right direction in obtaining the clutch adjustment tool (bar that aligns and sets distance between the two clutches on a 1991 club car - I see a tool listed on various web sites but it does not look like the one shown in the Club Car Manual - was hoping someone has some knowledge in this area and could set me straight on whether or not the aftermarket tool would work in place of the origional design....thanks in advance

The clutch aligning tool for Club Car ran from 1984 thru 1996 and uses club car part # 1014498

Its designed to help create the correct alignment between the crankshaft and the transmission input shaft, which should be 9-5/8" center to center. When using the tool, measure this distance with a ruler or tape measure, aiming to be within 1/8" accuracy. It's often better to have the clutches slightly further apart to prevent belt slip. Some users even adjust the alignment to be up to 1/2" forward, which mimics the effect of using a 1" shorter belt, enhancing low end torque and takeoff performance.

To use the tool correctly you will need to remove the driven clutch. The tool slides over the shaft and leans forward aligning to be within .060" of the side of the drive clutch. If there are any deviations in the spacing it might not provide the correct level of accuracy which can impact the performance of your clutch system. I am attaching the guide on how to align the clutch using the tool which explains mostly everything. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!
