wont stop idling

my last time out, my 96 gas club car would not stop 'idling' when i let off the gas, and completely stopped. at the same time the parking brake would not set. if i tapped the pedal repeatedly it would eventually quit running. any suggestions or ideas please?

Is it idling or is the starter still running? Will it shut off with the key? There usually is a micro switch that is wired in series with the key switch sounds like there is a problem with that switch or solenoid.

Bump on the micro, sometimes all they need adjusting. Worse case, is an easy replace.
