I discovered the muffler on my recently purchased 2001 DS had a hole on the top and the bottom side was rusted out bad.
We paid $156.60 for the new muffler at our nearest dealer.
My old muffler was rusted bad where it bolted to the head. The first thing I did was cut the old muffler off with my reciprocating saw using a steel blade.
Now I had to get the nuts off.
I got one nut off and one stud came out with the nut.
I picked up a couple of studs.
I could not get the stud out on the left side so I replaced the one on the right. I also used my air hose and blew out around the head.
Here I got the new muffler bolted up nice and snug using stainless steel nuts and lock washers.
Now my cart purrs like a cat and nice and quiet.
Special thanks to pistolpete for some helpful advice.
