  • 01' 48 volt DS Electric Club Car not charging

I'm a new owner of 01' 48 volt DS Electric Club Car. When I plug the charger in, it only stays on (charging) for a few minutes. I've tried a friend's charger and it does the same thing. Batteries are about 4 months old and hardly used prior to that (sick grandfather). All batteries have plenty of water.

    Any suggestions to resolve this?

Also want to later change out motor for increased speed and and install a lift kit. any sites that give a step by step?

    Thanks... Mike

Greetings, assuming the batteries are tested good, it sounds like the issue might be related to the onboard computer (OBC) in your Club Car. You mentioned that the batteries were recently replaced. If the negative cable from the battery pack was overlooked and doesn't pass through the OBC, or if there are additional cables connected to the negative terminal of the pack, the OBC may not detect that the pack is charging, causing it to shut off the charger after only a few minutes. This could also happen if the OBC itself is damaged. Typically, when you plug in the charger, the OBC should run for a brief period, then pause for a short time before resuming charging at the same amperage. This pause is normal as the OBC checks the pack. It's common for people who have recently changed batteries or upgraded wires to overlook passing the negative wire through the OBC, leading to charging issues. I'd recommend checking the wiring to make sure it's configured correctly according to the OBC specifications. If everything looks good there and you suspect the OBC is faulty, it may need to be replaced to resolve the charging problem.

Regarding your plans to upgrade your motor and lift, there are several posts and resources available here that provide step by step instructions for these modifications. You can start by searching the forums, there's often detailed instructions and recommendations to help you successfully complete your upgrades.
