1991 Club Car 36 volt

Installed 12 volt headlights. Grounded each light and switch per instructions. Hooked to #3 battery in line. Works, but I smell wire burning. Help.

You need to wire the lights to the negative and positive of 2 batteries (negative the first battery, positive on the second).
