My lights are currently hooked up to 2 sequence batteries giving 16v to them. I'd like to hook them up correctly. I just purchased a 48v to 12v transformer and was wondering if there was an easy "off the key" or switch activated way to hook the transformer to 48 volt for power? I know I could easily hook up directly to the batteries with a switch in line for hot, but was looking to have the transformer key activated. Thanks in advance!

You can splice into the power source line that's only energized when the key is on. Locate the wire that's hot when the key is in the "on" position. This wire will be your trigger point. Using that identified wire, connect it to the input side of your 48V to 12V transformer. This effectively ensures power flow to your transformer only when the key is turned on, activating your lighting system. Essentially, you're allowing the keyswitch to act as the gatekeeper for power supply to the transformer.
