how old are the batteries

I have a 1987 or 88 EZGO 36 volt cart Installed new batteries. I'm getting 36plus volts Solenoid kicks in and I'm getting 36plus through it. Cart moves about a foot very slow and stops and will not move again. Any ideas? I'm very new to chat sites I hope I have posted this in the correct way. Thanks
