  • Battery Discharge Indicator

    Hello,
I have a 2009 Club Car Precedent that has a BID (Battery Discharge Indicator) which shows the level of charge for the batteries. This is not the yellow Battery Condition LED under the steering wheel. Anyway, for whatever reason, the BID is flashing the left two bars back and forth and I have checked the batteries, the charger, and other items that I though could be the issue. I did not find any information about this BID in the user manual. Can anyone shed some light on what may be happening with this BID or is this something that I should replace?

Your problem could be related to the OBC. Sometimes, simply resetting it by disconnecting the power can reset the indicator and resolve the issue. To reset the OBC, follow these steps:
    1. Put the cart in tow mode to ensure safety.
    2. Disconnect the battery terminals, starting with the main pack negative terminal.
    3. Wait for 30 seconds.
    4. Reconnect the battery terminals, starting with the main pack positive terminal, and then the negative terminal.
    5. Put the cart back in run mode.

This process resets the OBC and might resolve the issue with the battery warning light. There is the battery warning light, which is managed by the onboard computer (OBC). It will signal different alerts if the batteries receive an incomplete charge due to one of the following reasons: 1) the DC power cord is disconnected, 2) AC power to the charger is interrupted, 3) the automatic charger shuts off after 16 hours of operation, or 4) the charger malfunctions.
    • If the charge is 90% or more complete, the battery warning light will not illuminate. The onboard computer will remember the remaining charge needed and will complete it during the next charge cycle.
    • If the DC cord is unplugged during a charge cycle and the charge is less than 90% complete, the battery warning light will illuminate for 10 seconds (25 seconds for Precedent vehicles). This indicates the vehicle has enough power for 60 minutes of operation, but it should be fully charged as soon as possible.
    • If the charger times out at 16 hours without sufficiently charging the batteries, the battery warning light will repeatedly illuminate for 10 seconds at 4-second intervals (25 seconds at 10-second intervals for Precedent vehicles). This signals an abnormal charge cycle, and the charger and batteries should be checked by your Club Car distributor/dealer.
    • During a charge cycle, if AC power to the charger is interrupted while the DC plug is still connected, the battery warning light will repeatedly illuminate for 10 seconds at 4-second intervals (25 seconds at 10-second intervals for Precedent vehicles). The light will go out once AC power is restored.
