  • 96 CC Looses speed

Hi: I am new to the forum and need some help with my 96 CC. It looses speed on inclines however slight. Installed new batteries and cables, lubed the front bearings and joints etc. The motor is a 3.1 hp and has good accel in forward and reverse, any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Caroval.
I found one tire out of round and another was loosing air. I replaced all four tires. I also was told to charge the batteries every night until they are fully charged about 20 times. Cart is running better.

Charging the batteries fully 20 times as a fix can help by breaking down some of the lead sulfate crystals that have built up. This process known as desulfation can partially restore the batteries ability to hold a charge. This is usually a temporary fix as the underlying degradation of the battery plates continues. The repeated full charging cycles can temporarily increase the performance, but it does not reverse the long term wear and tear the batteries have undergone.

As lead acid batteries age usually over a period of 3 to 5 years depending on usage and maintenance, they begin to suffer from increased internal resistance and reduced capacity. If not properly maintained, especially during the offseason, they can deteriorate faster. Lack of regular charging can lead to deep discharge conditions, and allowing batteries to remain in a discharged state causes further sulfation and irreversible damage. Regular charging and periodic equalization charges can help prolong battery life, but eventually all batteries will need to be replaced. This happens because over time, the chemical reactions inside the batteries become less efficient. As mentioned lead sulfate crystals build up on the battery plates during discharge and as the batteries get older, these crystals become harder to dissolve during the charging process.

To accurately determine the condition of each battery lets perform an individual battery load test. This will help you identify any batteries that might be causing performance issues. You can find detailed instructions on how to perform this test in this forum thread dedicated to battery testing. Feel free to report back here if you have any specific questions or results!
