Have a 1999 club car golf cart. Had new batteries installed, then the cart died. Had a new motor controller and solenoid also installed. The cart is running great but when i put the cart in reverse it makes the proper noise but will not run in reverse. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks imangolfer

When the cart is shifted into reverse, the Forward/Reverse (FNR) switch initiates the electrical signal to the controller, signaling it to send a flow of electricity to the electric motor. The motor controller then adjusts the power output to the motor, causing it to rotate in the opposite direction. This coordinated action enables the cart to move backward safely and efficiently.
It sounds like you've already taken some solid steps in diagnosing the issue. Let's delve deeper into the wiring to pinpoint the root cause. Start by tracing the Blue and Orange wires connected to the swivel posts of the Forward/Reverse (FNR) switch. These wires should lead to the motor's S1 and S2 terminals. Make sure they're securely connected in the correct spots and not damaged.
Additionally, consider checking the reverse resistor. You can bypass it temporarily for testing purposes by removing the Green and White wires from FNR Micro-switch #3 and connecting them together. This should provide full speed operation in both forward and reverse directions.
If everything checks out with the wiring and the solenoid is clicking properly (not just the microswitch), it's likely that the issue lies with the Forward/Reverse switch itself. Remove it for inspection, paying close attention to the contacts on both the front and back. Look for any signs of burning or melting, which could indicate a faulty switch. Once identified, replacing the damaged switch should resolve the problem and get your cart running smoothly in reverse again. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
