  • 2006 Club Car Precedent (48v) - Speed Sensor Repair help!

With the help of a few of the forum members, I have determined that my speed sensor is bad. I have a few questions regarding the repair of the speed sensor.

    1. Does it matter the type of solder you use to connect the hall effect sensor to the three wires?
    2. Does it matter which side of the hall effect sensor faces the inside of the hat? (i.e. which wire connects to which leg)
    3. Does it matter what kind of epoxy you use to fill in the hole?
    4. What do you recommend to keep the wires separated when putting in the hole and epoxying? Seems like there is a good chance they would touch.

I should also add that I purchased the Allegro A1203LUA-T via Digikey.

    Thanks in advance!

Gaminde is probably the guy to more accurately answer this but here's my view.
    Send him a PM.

    1. Does it matter the type of solder you use to connect the hall effect sensor to the three wires?
No problem with any solder, it's not over 350 degrees in there.

    3. Does it matter what kind of epoxy you use to fill in the hole?
Any 2 part epoxy should work, I use the dual chamber type with the plunger from Home Depot. It's about $5.

Not really but make it quick heat is bad, regular fine solder not silver solder or plumbing solder.
      2. Does it matter which side of the hall effect sensor faces the inside of the hat? (i.e. which wire connects to which leg)
I always face mine one way but that just makes the wires stick out the same each time check data sheet for orientation
      3. Does it matter what kind of epoxy you use to fill in the hole?
it can matter if it is conductive or breaks down and becomes conductive
      4. What do you recommend to keep the wires separated when putting in the hole and epoxying? Seems like there is a good chance they would touch.
These are tricks you learn after doing a few just be careful

        OOPS missed one

which wire to which leg get the data sheet from digikey same page from which you ordered the part from. it has the pin out for that chip and direction information along with detection distance for each side. I don't think it matters on direction in this app. each side reads opposite of the other magnetic pole wise.
