  • Brakes!!

Why are my brakes locking up on my '07 CC Precedent? I installed a Jakes Lift and now my brakes are locking up. I tried adjusting them but they still lock.

The pedal goes down about half way and when the brakes should begin engaging and slowing the car, they just lock up.

    Can anyone solve this one?

When you step on the brakes the axle has a tendency to roll and pull on the brake cables.
Check to see that the rear axle is bolted down tightly and not rotating.

I'm not sure how you check to see if it's rolling, the axle should be fairly stable with a plate welded on the bottom of the axle. I would just make sure that the long ubolts or spring bolts that pinch the riser are very tight. You should have received some instructions with your kit, review the rear portion again.

Also, some run into an issue like yours when doing a lift because of the left brake cable being shorter then the right side. Issue is corrected by replacing the left brake cable with a right side one which is longer.

Good point, it could be his cables are too short. It would certainly be something to look at.
I'm thinking because it's all fine until he applies the brakes, then it locks up. Normally this is axle rotation, as it rotates to the front it pulls on the cable and applies more brake.
