1991 club car gas grinds out of reverse

If you hold it in you are able to back up if not it grinds a horiable noise any idea were to look other than cable adjustment

Is this an electric cart and/or did you repost in the gas thread?
I'm guessing it's gas because there are no cables on an electric cart.
