I have an 04 iq 48v I put the charger on last nite around 10 pm this morning about 9 am the charger was at 5 on the meter and I could hear noise coming from batts sounded like boiling so I unplugged it . is this normal should I have left it on more to fully charge and go off by itself ?

You should always let your charger finish and shut down automatically.
It is normal for your batteries to off-gas for the last few hours of charging, this is the equalization part of the charging process.
Batteries that are low in charge could take up to 16 hours to recharge.
If you don't let it finish charging the battery light on your cart will likely come on to indicate a problem.
