A rev limiter, usually used as a pair with the governor, is a electronic device which regulates the top rotation speed of a gas engine. When the rev limiter is hit, it can be described as rapid shutting off and turning on of the engine at high revolutions per minute. On golf carts, the rev limiter grounds out the spark lowering the rotation speed of the engine. In most cases the rev limiter can be bypassed by simply unbolting a wire from a ground. Electric golf carts do not use rev limiters.
