club car 8 volt issues

I need help. I installed new batteries in my 8 volt club car. It is not working and the little wire that runs between the solenoid posts gets very hot.
Any ideas?

not much information here which post large post or small post is this a controller and what year. if I had to guess from your information I would say bad controller, and that small wire would be on Big posts and it would be a resistor.
