installing lights on club car electric

Basically, I installed front and back lights and used the 12 volt interuptor switch provided. If I try to run the power through the switch, no luck, but if I wire direct with pos on #1 battery, and neg on #2 battery, the lights work. I have tried everything and been to golf cart dealer and he said I was doing it right. I went and bought a new switch( same exact one) and have had no luck. No, it is not the fuse. Any ideas ????
