Is there any need to get a beefed up suspension when adding a rear seat?

Depends, when you are carrying 2 adults the suspension will sag. If you plan on carrying 2 large adults on bumpy terrain, your wheels will rub the fender wells.

Cons about beefed suspension, when you are carrying no load at all, you are going to have a bumpy ride.
